All I want for Christmas is...

On 65% of people under the age of 35, there is at least 1 videogame on their Christmas list this year... also, 80% of statistics are made up on the spot. And... 50% of the time, it works every time... sorry, I just had to throw that last one in there.

The point is, male or female... Xbox or Playstation, just about everyone has either a video game or a gaming device on their Christmas list this year.

There are some games that still have yet to come out this year... Today's premiere, of course being the Star Wars: The Old Republic. Sadly, I was GOING to get this game of a certain someone for Christmas, but recently learned that they aren't selling any extra games except the pre-ordered copies... and luckily that SOMEONE had preordered a copy for themselves... how rude!

Anyway... lots of games came out this year... and hundreds of new games will come out in 2012.
Games from '11 I'd still like to play:
Twisted Metal
Batman Arkham Assylum... much to my dismay, I have yet to play it.
Mario Kart 7,
Sims Pets (yes... I'm SUCH a girl)

Games I'd like to play due out next year:
Mario Party 9 (again... girl)

I know that's short... but that's my Christmas list...
What's yours?
Remember... you're in a girly gamer world... we just let you play in it.

Cyber Monday gaming deals- and tips

If you’re a gamer, chances are you’re also an electronics nut and you’re all about shopping on line. Being a girl… I’m all about shopping.. but shopping smart. I’ve got a few tips for you gaming shoppers! OR the gamer on your list!

This means, if you’ve been holding off on buy either MW or COD for some reason… now I the time to buy!

Of course Target and Wal-mart have their competition on.. Target still has deals from Black Friday up- an XBOX with Fable III, Arkham Asylum and Halo for $319.

Amazon.com has announced that this year they are doing their Cyber Monday sales all week long, so as long as produce doesn’t run out too quickly… they’ve got deals on console bundles, games and gaming accessories.
For instance: Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor w/ Kinect Adventures and Gunstringer Token Code -- $99.99

Games:
• Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (PS3, X360) -- $25.00
• Battlefield 3 (PS3, X360, PC) -- $39.99
• BioShock 2 (PS3, X360) -- $9.99
• Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3, X360) -- $29.99
• Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (X360) -- $19.72
• Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3, X360) -- $19.99
• Call of Duty: World at War (X360) -- $9.99

Obviously you can count on gamestop for some deals:
Their portable gaming systems will be around $50 off and with some deals, they’re doing by something, get an item free. Or most XBOX games are buy 2 get 1 free and their website says all pre-owned items are buy 2 get 1 free.

But… let me add a suggestion. There are big tips among “couponing websites”… one of my favorites, The Krazy Coupon Lady gives you lots of tips and coupons you can print—not just on big ticket items but also everyday items.

And for bigger things you plan to order on line, check out Mr.Ebates. They’ve got rebates for stores online AND items. Most you can’t double, but some you can. Also, make sure you look at whose got free shipping. As most online stores do free shipping once you spend a certain amount.

Also, be sure to follow your favorite stores on facebook and twitter. Some will be giving "secret" discounts and cheat codes to fans via social media. If you watch close enough you could get lots for free.

Happy Shopping! It’s a girls world.. you’re just shopping in it!

The wait is over: Modern Warfare 3 IS OUT!

Standing in line, surrounded by guys who haven't shaved, showered or possibly slept in 24 hours or more... some smoking, some drunk.
It was a great launch for MW3. I was 85 in a 190 person line. I was happy with that.
At 12:15, while on the way home, I opened the case for MW3 for PS3... and the disc had the lovely "new game" smell.

After playing for a short time(about 90 minutes), I found a few things I like and a few things I don't like about the game. If you didn't want to know my opinion, you wouldn't be reading this... so here it is:
I only got to play Death Match. But, from what I did get to try, here's what I've found.
Likes:
My favorite map so far: Resistance. It's war riddled and evacuated Paris. In the opening scene, you can see the Eifel Tower. You are running around the rocket pounded, rubble infested city, shooting people... and it's great.

All of the maps seem to be pretty big, most are multi-level. The smallest one I played seemed to be about the size of a medium map in Black Ops.

The basic guns you can use are pretty easy to handle and aim fairly well. The light machine guns jump around alot, but if you play with them to any extent you're used to that.

Of course my favorite tactical weapon, semtex is back.

Dislikes: The fact that maps are huge, I also see as a downfall. It's going to take forever to find good hiding... or rather "tactical waiting" and sniping areas.

With this game, the images don't seem as clear. They almost seem dull or dusty, even in maps where it's not in a "dusty" place.

Fewer gun choices. I'm kind of upset that there are fewer guns to choose from with this game. While variety is the spice of life... I generally find 2 or 3 guns and stick with them... it's going through all of them to try them each out that is both fun and tiresome.

New:
But now there's a new one, the "Bouncing Betty". When triggered, it "bounces" into the air and explodes. It can be avoided by going prone quickly.
There's Frag, C4 and throwing knives. (Which if you're one of the jerks that uses the throwing knives, hope I never run into you in a dark alley... you may not have any knees to walk with).

Kill streaks: There is a new item called IMS which stands for Intelligent munitions system. It's automatically triggered when an enemy gets near it. It has 4 grenades that explode in the air.

At 9 kills you can call in a strafe run, which includes 5 choppers to blaze the area you select.

There's an "assault drone" which is similar to the RC car in Black Ops.

Overall rating: so far... 3.5 out of 4.

I need to play more... but not right now. Maybe a follow up review is in order later... maybe.

For now, it's a girl gamer's world... we just let you play in it.

Transformers 3: Why this movie will break up relationships

Okay, so we all know that Transformers 3 is one of the most anticipated action movies of the summer.

But, what we don't all know is that this movie is one of the best made movies of the year... that's because it seems the action movie makers have FINALLY figured out how to make the movie a draw for women as well.... ADD A HOT BAD GUY!

Yes, there is a hidden gem for the ladies in this movie: Patrick Dempsey, a.k.a. Doctor McDreamy is the bad guy! Yes ladies, you have a reason to go to the movie with your man and LOVE IT... Actually, forget your man, go with your girlfriends!

So, now that they've finally got the equation for a GREAT Blockbuster movie that EVERYONE will want to see, will they stick with it? Probably not, sadly.

However, while attending the movie, obviously I was rooting for McDrea... I mean Dempsey & the bad guys. Which, while I was telling Patrick Dempsey to punch Shia LaBeouf in the face... my husband was scowling at me and contemplating leaving me at the theater.

This movie may cause a few break ups, because of this. The girls rooting for the bad guys and of course, the guys reverting back to being 5 and rooting for the transformers.

All in all, the CGIs were great and the action scenes were tense... especially with the added tension of Dempsey in a fight fight and me... rooting for the bad guy.

Also, look for the foreshadowing in the beginning... if you're paying attention, you'll get it. But if not, you may miss it. There's also a very unadvertised star in the movie as well... he only does a voice, but his is one that you'll notice right away. Sorry, no spoilers. Go see it for yourself... and a word to the wise: don't got with a date of the opposite sex.. and if you do, don't take it personally. Both sexes get eye candy in this movie.

Is it possible there could be no COD release in November?

I have heard due to court disputes there could cause COD NOT to be released in November! Say it ain't so!

I know, like myself, you are probably also heartbroken by this.

I also know, you probably didn't heed my last blog where I said we should all protest Sony and not play once the PlayStation Network was back up and running again... because even I didn't take my own advice.

However, I'm going to say it again... we should protest and NOT play. I have convinced my husband not to buy the expansion maps for the current COD, but having already put money on the COD to come out in November, there's no way I'm not going to play it when it actually does come out. But, if they're going to fight over money then they should be protested against... it should be about making your customers happy-- not about money... but that's just this girl's take.

WHAT THE HECK PLAYSTATION?!

So Sony recently had a breech in security... it has now been in "maintenance" mode for TWO WEEKS! I think that's a bit much!
What is the deal with not letting me play black ops online?
I know there are about 2.2 Million people on Play Station Network. And that means Sony has a LOT of unhappy customers.
I say we PS Netters take a stand... give them an ultimatum... If they don't have it up and running by May, Friday the 13th... we'll call it PS Network death day... have a funeral and find a new console to play on..
Maybe I'll dust off our Wii... my husband got some Wii Points for Christmas.. maybe we'll use those.
Sony... I get you're trying to "fix" the problem, but you should always have a patch, back up or plan B in your back pocket anyway. Hopefully this black eye will go away soon... but gamers have long memories!

The New 3DS is out!

On Sunday morning at midnight the new 3DS was officially released in the United States.

Jimmy Fallon had someone show off what the 3DS can do on his show Friday night before the release just 24 hours later. Of course, watching it on tv is nothing like actually playing it because you don't get the 3D effects.

From articles I've read there were lines at midnight at electronic department stores across the country with people ready to get their hands on the first shipments.

An obvious downfall for the system however, is there are few 3D games for the system. So, I'm waiting until there are more games available... that I want to play.

This handheld 3DS costs around $250 off the shelf, but is going for about double that on Ebay and other online electronic selling sites.

USA Today says "Nintendo aims to ship 4 million 3DS systems globally by the end of March. On Feb. 26, the first day it was available in Japan, consumers bought more than 400,000. The system also launches in Europe on Friday."

So, the system isn't even global yet. Although I have heard little from actual users, I would like to. If you've gotten your hands on one of these 3DS', I'd like to talk to you!

It's a girl's world... you gamers are just living in it!

Angry Birds.... movie trailer

http://www.popeater.com/2011/03/28/angry-birds-movie-trailer-spoof/

Have you seen this? A "movie trailer" for the game Angry Birds "movie". Looks like it has the "action" and the love story too... they even got the best action director... Michael Bay.

It's pretty funny... marketing as a war movie. It is a spoof and it starts out serious and quickly falls apart. Especially when the corporal is asked "is this a game to you?"... umm... no... or... uhh.. yes?

My favorite part is where the bird hits the brick. You gotta see this!

I've seen lots of Angry Birds merchandise, I guess you'd call it. I've seen an interactive Angry Birds cake, I hear it's going to become a board game... and now, apparently an action movie.

It's a girl's world.. you gamers are just livin in it!

talking into a ghost? I don't think so.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20038861-1.html

A man in Japan, who likes to clone himself with a droid, has made an 8 inch ghost-looking doll which he says will be used to talk to your friends and family.

The ghosty looking fetus-thing will "emit" your presents as you download your face and features onto your ghosty phone thing and when you use it to call someone else, your presents goes into their phone and they can see and hear you... as this little doll.

I don't know all the ins and outs of it.. but this seems too strange for me.

I don't think I'd like to hold a doll-phone to talk to someone. I can't imagine this little thing talking back to me. Seems creepy.

Oscars

While I’ve never met Oscar, I do become a voyeur every year and watch him.

This year with Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries, Bride Wars) co-hosting… I’m not going to lie, I don’t think I’ve ever seen ANYTHING James Franco (127 Hours(for which he is nominated), Milk) has been in, I’m pretty excited.

The husband and I have decided that it could go either way. Really funny, or trying too hard. But, we’ll have to wait to see.

Nominees- you can pretty much already guess who’s going to win- either the King’s Speech or Black Swan for best movie, Natalie Portman for best and probably Colin Firth for the King’s Speech—simply because James Franco is co-hosting.

Now, I don’t know for sure… but I don’t know that someone hosting has ever been nominated for Best Actor… let alone won.

Supporting Actress- my vote is for Amy Adams… sorry, I loved her in Enchanted and for Best Supporting Actor Christian Bale. (Best Batman I think we’ve ever had… sorry George!)

But the thing I’m most looking forward to? Of course the dresses! Who doesn’t love to see them all dressed up… and who knows what the heck Helena Bonham Carter (nom for King's Speech) will be wearing. Let’s just hope she’s got on the same shoes this time.

Grammys... ARE YOU SERIOUS? PART II

Did I miss something? When I watched the Grammys I saw a total of about 8 awards given out... the rest of the time was musical acts.

I thought this was supposed to be an AWARDS SHOW! Where were the awards? I hardly saw any!

However, the one I did see that was a HUGE upset- JUSTIN BEIBER LOST TO A HARDLY KNOWN NAME! For Best New Artist, Esperanza Spalding won. I think no one was sitting, waiting with bated breath for this one... but then when the award didn't go to Beiber, we were all scratching our heads.

Most of the performances were good...
But, the quick tribute to Dolly Parton with John Mayer, Norah Jones and Keith Urban seemed thrown together at the last minute and odd with the three of them squeezed together on the stage and John clearly not knowing the words as he stared at the prompter for the lyrics.

Lady Gaga was her typical Gaga self... entrance in the an egg, and her outfit was... as usual... random and ugly. The glued on points to her shoulders made her look like a gargoyle and her outfit, which was completely see through was WAY TOO MUCH for "family viewing time"... before 10 p.m. should have been banned! You could see her heart shaped pasties under her top...

It was nice to see Christina Aguilera get it right during their tribute to Aretha Franklin. Both lyrically and fashion. Loved her dress!

What was your favorite part... or least favorite part of the Grammy's?

Fav: nice little surprise of the "Beib" not winning

Lease Fav: Lady Gaga... both the song "born this way" and the outfit... yuck!

Grammys... ARE YOU SERIOUS?

It's that time of year... the Grammys are on their way.

Justin Beiber has been nominated too many times, John Mayer not enough and Lady Gaga is in every category they could squeeze her into, whether she really fit or not. There are a few surprises... but the main category I'm anxious to see is Best Pop Vocal Album.

Have you seen the list of nominees for Best Pop Vocal Album? Pop, a category meaning "popular" can be varied. As long as there are vocals on the album and it sells... it qualifies.

The 2011 noms... Justin Beiber for My World 2.0, Lady Gaga for The Fame Monster (boy howdy is she), Katy Perry for Teenage Dream, John Mayer for Battle Studies and the one that is WAY WAY out of their league for being in this contest: Susan Boyle for I dreamed a dream.

Seriously? Yeah, it's vocal and yeah... I suppose probably popular to the whole 50 people who only watch the tv guide channel and see her special at least once a week... but really? Susan Boyle? Honestly, I can't believe she's even GOING to the Grammy's. C'mon... Susan Boyle in the Pop category? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

I have to imagine Susan Boyle being at the Grammys is alot like a Peter Griffin when Lois great aunt dies and they buy that vase for a ton of money.... he tries to fit in with the hoity toity people, but everyone just laughs at him.

Yes, Ms. Boyle has a fantastic voice, but she is- for all other reasons... a one hit wonder. Has anyone heard her sing anything other than music from a Broadway play? No.. that's because her voice is not suited for much else besides opera or Broadway. She couldn't sing Barbara Streisand if her life depended on it (not well anyway).

Another category that I find interesting this year: Best Solo Rock Performance. The noms? Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant and Neil Young.

Although I've never actually heard Robert Plant.. I gotta say for John Mayer and Robert Plant to be nominated in the same category, the same year and at the same time has to be an honor... and a huge sign that you've made it.

Seriously?! You're up against SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY! John Mayer has been called a young Clapton... and then of course every middle aged woman's fantasy- Neil Young (he's too old for me).

All in all, I'm pretty excited to see how everything goes down. The performances should be good and the categories look pretty tough.. in most cases, there is no clear winner.

One of the big reasons to watch though- the performers... just announced: Barbara Streisand on top of several others you you don't want to miss: B.o.B, Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, Muse and Katy Perry and the one I'm most looking forward to- Cee Lo Green with Gwyneth Paltrow and the Jim Henson Company muppets. You KNOW it's gonna be a good show when there's muppets involved! Can't wait to watch!

This year, the Grammys are on February 13th at 8 p.m. on CBS.

It's a girls world, you're just livin' in it!

Preivew to album review: Battle Studies... just now gettin' around to it!

I was recently given John Mayer's Battle Studies. I've heard a handful of songs from the album: Heartbreak Warfare, Who says and Friends, Lovers or Nothing, because they're posted on his web page.

Unfortunately the album has already been tarnished for me... which explains the delay in the review of the album... because of the interview he did with Rolling Stone.

Review of album (with as little interview influence as possible) coming soon.

Top XboX 360 games

Of all the games that came out in 2010, which was the most popular for online play? It's no surprise that Call Of Duty: Black Ops topped this list. Even though COD: Bops was only on the market for 2 months, it still blew the competition away.

However, what followed my surprise you. The XboX Live programming director, Major Nelson (no, not the I dream of Jeanie guy), kept track of the games released in 2010 that got the most online Live play.

Top 10 games:
1) Call of Duty: Black Ops
2) Halo: Reach
3) Red Dead Redemption
4) Fable III
5) Battlefield: Bad Company 2
6) Medal of Honor
7) Mass Effect 2
8) FIFA Soccer 11
9) Fallout: New Vegas
10) BioShock 2

I'm not going to lie, I've only ever played Black Ops... which is indeed a great and fun game to play online.
However, I don't own an XboX and my husband refuses to add to the Microsoft empire, so we probably wont' be getting one any time soon.

Never fear, sports fans, Madden 2011 did make the top 20-- it placed at 11 on the list of the top 20. But, this just goes to show that globally, soccer is more popular than Football, as the FIFA Soccer came in at 8. Who knew FIFA was so popular?
Don't forget, it's a girls world.. you gamers are just livin' in it!

Wish list games

Okay, this blog is going to be relatively short... and mostly, not written by me.

My birthday is coming up. So, what games do you suggest I either ask for or buy?

Keep in mind my taste in games... Sims, Animal Crossing, Just Dance (and basically most dance games), Katamari and Call of Duty.

I know... girly, cutsie and a shooter... go figure.

I have been considering giving LittleBigPlanet a whirl... but for the most part I don't like games with a "story line". For instance, I've only played Call of Duty online in team death match mode and I only made it to about level 5 on Mario Brothers before I gave up.

Suggestions on games? E-mail me!

Let's talk portable gaming.

I have the DS... which my husband has stolen. (When the salesman asked me if I wanted the pink one, I nearly hit him.) I had the original gameboy, and I've always kind of wanted to get a PSP, but thought it was too expensive... that and I don't really have anywhere to go that I could play it, except for the occasional longer car ride, when I'm not driving.
But, I'm anxious about the 3DS. Not just because it will neat to see how they've accomplished 3D without the use of glasses, but also because this will cause the whole industry to go into competition mode.
Sony announced their updated version of a PSP, the yet-to-be released NGP. That will have a touch screen, a camera on front and back and a correction to the PSP, two thumb sticks.
There are a handful of games they have announced will be available for the NGP, uncharted, Call of Duty, Killzone, Little Big Planet and others.
Something Sony has finally done that I have been expecting.. they are putting games on in a whole new... yet familiar format- flash memory!
I started wondering a while ago when they would be doing this, and now they have.
One MAJOR down fall to this format-- children. Many of the kids that have DS's or PSPs is that they tend to lose things. Especially things with small pieces. (Which is why I suspect Polly Pocket made so much money.. lets make something with a billion small pieces so the kids will lose the piece and have to buy new... GENIUS!)
So, unless they make each game with a clicker remote that beeps for when you lose them... they're going to make a ton from kids who lose games and have to buy the same ones over and over.
But, I have to imagine that flash memory is also so easy to put together, the cost has to relatively inexpensive comparatively. You would think the same thing for cd's.. but they still cost $50 a game!
Either way, I'm excited to see where the industry is going. Small, inexpensive, lots more memory... and 3D!

The most addicting online game?

I play A LOT of online games. You can see the gaming sites I use a lot on my links page. Most really good games get a sequel, but there is one game I have played that has gotten re-made about 4 times... It's Adult Swim's Robot Unicorn.
I think the original is still the best, though. The you are a robot unicorn and you have to break through giant stars and grab small fairy things. Each star is 100 points, each fairy is 10. All you do is jump (arrow up button) and speed up (right arrow button), that's it!
But, the longer you go, the faster you run and the harder it is to see what's coming up ahead of you.
The game ends when you hit a rock or a wall. But... you get three chances. I dare you not to get addicted to this game! (ahh the joys of working weekends.)
Some of my co-workers and e-mail each other back and forth, keeping in mind who has the highest score amongst us and then mock the others when they fail to break our "high score". When we first started playing, the high score was broken just about every day. Now it's broken about once a month, if that. The score gets higher and harder to break.
So, this brings me my question. Have you become addicted to any certain game online? If so, where is and what's your high score? I'll try to break it and let you know what I think of it.
I've found that simple games seem to be the most entertaining and addicting.

The Sims 3 out for consoles

So, I have not bought the game... this is true. However I've been a SIMLOVER since I discovered (the original) SimCity when my dad got it for Christmas one year. Even when the original was an above head view looking down only, I loved the challenge of the game. Building a city, making it prosperous and grow, building roads and then of course the ultimate disaster would strike.. my favorite of course was when Godzilla showed up... who didn't love that?
But, when The Sims came out, I got it for my birthday when I was in high school and have had every addition-- including Sims for DS-- ever since.
I've had at least 4 or 5 expansion packs and watched my old games become obsolete when I upgraded computers, sadly. And then I learned cheats... which I never would have known about had it not been for my husband. I LOVE *MOTHERLODE*! I used it all the time!
Now, I have the Sims3 on our family desktop, but I rarely play it. I love making my character and then making characters of any guy who's ever broken my heart, having him fall in love with me (but not me with him), and then putting him in a pool with no latter to get out or building him into a room with no doors and he dies in there. Which is better than what he would have gotten in real life. Everybody does that right?
But, I don't think I'll be getting Sims3 for the console. It's not because the graphics or bad... I can't comment on them because I haven't seen them. It's because the game has become mundane, at least since the early days of SimCity. There's no surprise in it... they do as I tell them too... or click and instruct them too. There's no surprise monsters, earthquakes or floods. Heck, in the version I have it doesn't even rain or snow. How am I supposed to have a romantic fireside evening with my husband if it doesn't snow?!
EA, don't make it so easy... put some kind of challenge in there! Do you have a suggestion for the creators of the Sims? How would you change it?

National Geographic Game?

I never thought I'd see the day when National Geographic got into video games, but they have!

The game which will be available for both the Wii and PS3, is a kind of quiz game to test you and your family's knowledge on wildlife. There is video footage of animals and offers a chance to families to play and learn together.

Three different ways to play, including a solo player experience called Quest Mode. The game features trivia questions, puzzles and graphics from animals from around the world.

The different ways to play allow kids to play by themselves and explore nature or to play with parents and learn from them.

Pretty cool and especially nice for families looking for an educational tool while having fun at the same time!

Plants Vs. Zombies

Plants vs. Zombies, made by Popcap can keep you entertained for hours! I know, because it has kept me entertained for nearly 100!
My husband downloaded the full version about a year and a half ago and we both played the whole game until we beat it.
Have you beaten it? If not, you need to because the music video at the end is TOTALLY worth it!
This week PvZ came out for the DS and my husband got it for his birthday.
Pros: it is very similar to the actual game.
Cons: since the screen is so small, it's harder to see.
I played through the first two levels and I am happy to say, you unlock everything in the same order and the Zombies stumble no faster than they did before.
I just can't wait for PvZ2! However, I have yet to find a release date for it. I have seen they said "between 2010 and 2011". So here we are, in 2011 and I have yet to see a PvZ2 yet!
But trust me when I say, I'm going to play it and beat it and report back to you!
For now, it's a girl's world, you gamers are just livin' in it!

Playing while you pee?

When you're in the bathroom you're probably no usually concentrating on getting a high score... well.. most of us aren't.
But a Japanese company has created a game made specifically for urinals. Men can stand at a urinal, select the type of game they want to play and aim their stream at the target.
Instead of a joystick... the guy gets to use his own. And instead of a tv screen, you aim at a bulls eye-esc goal in the urinal. The goal is hooked up to a monitor which shows you how well you are doing and the game ends when you're ammo is gone.
There are a few games you can chose from. In one, your "ammo" plays the part of the wind, trying to blow the dress off of a girl. In another, it is milk coming out of your character's nose and you compete against other people who have used the game you have.
Sad for guys though... these are only in a handful of places in Japan right now and they have not said anything about bring them to the United States.
I have to say, this reminds me of something I read a few years ago where a restaurant owner was putting stickers that looked like flies in the bottom of the urinals... which was keeping the bathrooms cleaner because the guys were focusing on shooting the fly and not getting their urine everywhere.
But, I guarantee you'll never see these in a lady's room! And girls... if you're ever at a place where these games may be, don't take it personal if your man gets up to use the bathroom every 10 minutes, he's trying to beat the high score.

Have you heard Owl City?

Have you heard Owl City? Check them out here Owl City. Yes, the name is weird, but they have good music.
It vaguely reminds me of poetry I'd write in 7th & 8th grades.. it's cute, but doesn't make a ton of sense. It's also light, airy and fun to sing along to. (I put on concerts in my car... no you're not invited.)
Owl City is actually one guy, Adam Young, who writes and sings the songs himself. Which is really cool when you hear the music. Also, take a look at his blog... funny, odd and interesting all at the same time.
Owl City has been featured in "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole." And in a car commercial more recently.
If you haven't heard them you need to... relaxing and fun. I promise it will not disappoint on a rainy day!

My intro to shooters: Modern Warfare

Let me start by saying, I don't play shooters.  Before Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, I had never played a shooter. When I was in college, my younger brothers were playing Modern Warfare and I asked them if I could play... their response?  "You're a girl, you can't play."
Years later, in the summer of 2010, my husband got C.O.D, in the mail from Gamefly.  This was my chance!
He let me play and I was horrible.  However, I loved it... it was like a REALLY mean version of tag. You shoot someone and then run away and they try to find you and shoot you back.  As Stewie Griffin would say "how delightfully evil"!
My husband had already played through the game and all I wanted to do was "shoot bitches", as it has become known in our house.
So, I played the team death match online.  I have found one of my new favorite pastimes!
I've discovered after playing a game for so long you find certain things that just make you enjoy the game even more... and some things that make you hate it at the same time...  I've found not only a great way to remedy this, I've also found a way to combine both my favorite and least favorite parts of the game.
My favorite part? Stickies.  My least favorite part? riot shields.
I found a trick while playing one day-- a guy who had already killed me twice was coming at me with a riot shield... in reaction, I stuck a sticky to his shield.

I must admit, I am one of those a$$holes that you hate- I'm a camper.  More because I'm not very quick, so I'd rather the enemy walk by me and shoot them, rather than run around trying to find them.
The more I play and more confident I get, the more I get up and run around, instead of camping.  But I find there are still some maps where I prefer to camp anyway.  Either I've got a really good camping spot, or they're just harder for me to navigate.
My favorite map in Modern Warfare by far is Skidrow.  Skidrow is an abandoned, beat up city, similar to the streets of Chicago, if I had to put a name with the map.  There's a playground in the middle of a parking lot-esc area and on one side is what seems to be a small apartment.
There's a corner in there, where I can fit between the wall and a washer/dryer. If you turn to the left and aim out the open wall, you can shoot your opponent either right in the face or in the back. Hardly anyone looks in that corner when they run through the room, so you can shoot them in the back, or catch them off guard as they try to run through and shoot them in the face.

I do have a bone to pick with the makers of all Call Of Duty games, though...  How come I can ONLY be a  WHITE MAN?!  What is up with that?!  You should be able to customize your avitar to be a girl!

I'll follow this up with a blog about Black Ops in more detail later.
For now, it's a girl's world.. you gamers are just livin' in it!
